Guide

How Recycle Rewards Works

A step-by-step guide to logging household recycling and seeing its estimated impact.

Summary

Recycle Rewards is designed to make household recycling easier to remember, record and understand. Standard logs use the material and weight you enter, with instant CO₂ Impact Points and progress tracking. Photo and AI guidance are optional unless a clearly labelled pilot activity requires evidence.

The six steps

1

Check your bin day

Use your postcode to see collection dates, reminders, and the recycling rules for your local council.

2

Sort your recycling

Keep clean recyclable materials separate and follow the local guidance shown in the app.

3

Weigh what you collected

Use ordinary household scales and record the recycling weight in kilograms. Smart scales are a future option, not a requirement.

4

Log material and weight

Choose the material, enter its weight, and submit the log. A photo is not required for a standard recycling log.

5

See your impact

Receive an estimated CO₂ saving and CO₂ Impact Points immediately, then follow your personal and community progress.

6

Build towards rewards

Keep building consistent habits and see active, funded pilot rewards when they are available.

What materials are supported?

Recycle Rewards supports common household recyclable materials including:

Paper & cardboard
Plastic bottles & tubs
Metal tins & cans
Glass bottles & jars
Food waste
Garden waste
Textiles
Cartons (Tetra Pak)

Accepted materials vary by local council. The app checks your local authority rules and alerts you if a material is not collected kerbside in your area.

Rewards during early access

CO₂ Impact Points track your estimated impact and reward progress. Only active, funded rewards will appear in the app, with the exact point cost and availability shown before redemption. Creating an account and logging recycling does not require payment.
